Lance Johnson joins us as an associate

ROCK HILL, SC – An experienced real estate attorney who focuses his practice on commercial development, Lance Johnson, has joined Morton & Gettys as an associate. His practice also will include education law.

At Morton & Gettys, he’ll assist developers and lenders involved in a range of commercial and mixed-use real estate projects. He’s ready to assist with acquisitions, tax credits, finance, negotiations, compliance and due diligence. He is licensed in Illinois and is in the process of obtaining admission to practice in North Carolina and Georgia, in order to better serve clients with business interests outside of South Carolina. He will be taking the South Carolina Bar exam in February.

Johnson is returning to the Carolinas after four years as an associate at Chicago law firms focusing on real estate and financing. Johnson concentrated on commercial and mixed-use development, helping major financial institutions and government bodies with loan documentation for construction financing. He also counseled clients on complex collateral matters, including affordability, security risks and portfolio risks.

A graduate of DePaul University College of Law, Johnson served as assistant general counsel for Chicago Public Schools. As general counsel, he advised administrators and teachers at the system’s more than 600 public elementary and high schools. He offered legal guidance on a range of matters, including issues involving LGBTQ students and ADA compliance. He also represented the board in administrative hearings and managed student expulsions.

Johnson earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology and cultural anthropology at Duke University.
