Rock Hill Knowledge Park takes a big step
ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – An ambitious redevelopment project that takes in historic downtown, Winthrop University and areas in between took a key step when developers hired Morton & Gettys to represent them in negotiating and preparing a master development agreement with the City of Rock Hill.
Morton & Gettys also will represent Rock Hill Knowledge Park developers in other development, financing and entitlement-related issues related to the project.
Knowledge Park extends from The Old Town East residential development at Elizabeth Lane to Winthrop University. It takes in historic downtown and the redeveloping textile corridor as well as envisioning revitalization for several other neighborhoods . The goal is to bring high-tech and high-paying jobs to Rock Hill and to create a community where people can both live and work. The focus is on culture as much as it is on the economy.
Plans also call for redeveloping the 23-acre Rock Hill Printing and Finishing Co. site. Known as The Bleachery in the past, the site’s future could include retail shops, restaurants and offices as well as residences.
Commitment to Rock Hill Revitalization
Morton & Gettys demonstrated its commitment to downtown redevelopment in the fall, when the law firm became the first business to open at Fountain Park Place in Old Town East. Fountain Park, a joint project of Comporium and the city, has played a key part in kick-starting downtown’s revitalization. The office building was the first step. Planners foresee other businesses, restaurants, retail and a performing arts center in the area.
The attorneys in Morton & Gettys commercial real estate and development practice area also are working with a number of other clients on several other projects involving construction of new buildings in downtown Rock Hill.
Morton & Gettys often assists national and local developers with issues related to both residential and commercial properties, from land acquisition and development to selling, financing or leasing.
