Morton & Gettys backs new RockHillGives initiative

rockhillgives_2015ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Morton & Gettys has joined a dozen local agencies, organizations, businesses and individuals to bring #GivingTuesday, a national movement that celebrates generosity, to Rock Hill.

The initiative, #RockHillGives, encourages people to contribute time, needed supplies or money to their favorite local causes on Dec. 1. That date is the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, two of the heaviest shopping days of the Christmas season.

“We have two days for getting deals,” the #GivingTuesday web site says. “Now we have #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back.”

Morton & Gettys long has supported the idea of giving back through public service, community volunteerism and financial donations.

“We view this as another opportunity to get involved in the Rock Hill community in a meaningful way and to do something that can make a difference in the lives of others,” said John P. Gettys, co-founder of the Rock Hill law firm.

RockHillGives already going strong

#GivingTuesday began in 2012 in New York. The Rock Hill campaign is in its first year, and it’s already going strong on social media sites. Daily photos – “unselfies,” because the emphasis is on helping others – have been posted on the #RockHillGives Facebook page since the beginning of the month to begin generating enthusiasm for the campaign.

As part of its role as a founding partner of #RockHillGives, Morton & Gettys is encouraging staff and attorneys to take time away from work on Dec. 1 to volunteer with local organizations. The firm also is matching employees’ monetary donations to any 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving the Rock Hill community dollar for dollar.

The firm also is supporting #ROCKHILLGIVES on its Facebook page as well as encouraging staff to post “save the date” unselfies reminding their social media friends of the coming event.
