J. Richards McCrae becomes newest partner at Morton & Gettys

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – J. Richards McCrae III, who grew up in Fort Mill and came home to York County to join Morton & Gettys in 2009, has become the firm’s newest partner.

An experienced litigator, McCrae focuses his practice on personal injury cases. He’s represented survivors in wrongful death suits and victims, including children, who have been seriously injured in accidents.

“Richards combines a keen legal mind with great compassion – and that’s important when you’re working closely with people who have endured tragedies,” Morton & Gettys co-founder John Gettys said. “We were thrilled when he came to us as an experienced litigator nearly six years ago, and we’re thrilled now to now call him a partner.”

McCrae joined Morton & Gettys after four years as a trial attorney for a Columbia law firm that focused on civil litigation and workers’ compensation. Prior to that, he served as a law clerk to the Hon. John C. Hayes III, South Carolina Circuit Court judge for the Sixteenth Circuit that includes York and Union Counties.

He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law. McCrae also earned his undergraduate degree at South Carolina, graduating magna cum laude with a bachelor of arts in history.

McCrae, who now lives in Rock Hill, is active in a range of state and local issues and causes. He currently serves on the board of Children’s Attention Home, a center for neglected, abused or abandoned children in Rock Hill. He’s served on the South Carolina Association for Justice Board of Governors since 2012.

In addition to personal injury cases, McCrae has represented clients in a range of other civil litigation, including product liability, automobile accidents and medical malpractice.
