Bev Carroll receives ATHENA Leadership Award for 2020
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Bev Carroll has received the ATHENA Leadership Award for 2020 through the York County Regional Chamber of Commerce. The award is sponsored locally by Founders Federal Credit Union.
ATHENA International is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to building a global pipeline of female leaders to create a balance in leadership worldwide. Founded in 1982, it develops, supports and honors girls and women from the classroom to the boardroom, building a pipeline of leaders.
Nicki Nash, chief marketing officer at Founders Federal Credit Union, surprised Bev during a Zoom call with the news that she was receiving the award. “Thank you so much for all you do, for the outstanding service and leadership you provide, and the way you mentor other women,” she said. “Everyone looks up to you.”
The ATHENA Leadership Award was inspired by the Greek goddess identified with strength, courage, wisdom and enlightenment. It is presented to a woman – or man – who has achieved professional excellence, contributed time and energy to improve the quality of life of a community, and actively assisted others, particularly women, in realizing their full leadership potential. Bev is unquestionably a leader in her community and state. She is the former president of the South Carolina Bar, from 2019-2020. She has held several other leadership positions with the Bar over the years, and has also served as president of the South Carolina Bar Foundation.
Closer to home, Bev is chair of the Rock Hill Public Parks & Recreation Commission and past chair of Rock Hill Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors. She is a member of the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association. At Morton & Gettys, she is known as a mentor to new attorneys, and an advocate for her staff.
She is a skilled litigator, experienced business counselor and certified employment law specialist, working with businesses of all sizes on a wide range of issues, from representing them during court appearances to advising them on day-to-day operations.
