Morton & Gettys donation helps bring Steinway to York County arts council

A Steinway Essex baby grand piano has a new home at the Community Performance Center of the Arts Council of York County, thanks to donations from Morton & Gettys and other community organization.

Morton & Gettys contributed in conjunction with its move to a new office in downtown Rock Hill.

Five of the firm’s attorneys donated to nonprofit organizations in honor of the change. Partner Michael Smith, who serves on the arts council board of directors, selected that organization for his donation.

The Steinway replaces a 100-year-old baby grand that had become too difficult to maintain and didn’t meet the standards many touring artists want for their performances, the Rock Hill Herald reported.

The new baby grand will make its public debut Jan. 17, during a performance by soprano Lori Hicks. Her concert, titled “The Music of My Voice,” is part of the “BRAVO!” series celebrating musicians, vocalists and ensembles from the Carolinas. Tickets still are available.
