Elizabeth Smith Owen honored with Leadership in Law Award by SC Lawyers Weekly

South Carolina Lawyers Weekly has honored Elizabeth Smith Owen, a partner with Morton & Gettys law firm in Rock Hill, with its Leadership in Law Award. The annual honor recognizes attorneys who go above and beyond in serving the profession and the community.

The selection process begins with a nomination from a fellow attorney. An independent panel of legal professionals then evaluates and scores each nominee. This year, 29 attorneys around the state were selected to receive the recognition.

Elizabeth is an experienced divorce lawyer skilled at representing clients in issues such as child custody, child support, alimony and spousal support, visitation, adoption, and prenuptial agreements. Her education law practice includes counseling school districts on topics ranging from social media issues and legal compliance to general liability.

Outside of her practice, Elizabeth has served the broader community. She was the part-time chief municipal judge for the City of York for five years, and is a past president of the York County Bar Association.

Elizabeth has a passion for education and her community. She volunteers with community youth- and family-oriented organizations, serving as board president for the Early Learning Partnership of York County, and vice-president of the York County Community Foundation. She co-founded the annual Running of the Turkeys charity 5k on Thanksgiving in York, for the benefit of PATH, Inc., and she serves on the board for the York County Natural Gas Authority.  She is also a Liberty Fellow, Class of 2019.
