M&G Celebrates 25 Years

In 2001, Rock Hill natives Jim Morton and John Gettys left their neighboring law firms to open a two-person office in a former coffee shop. Twenty-five years later, Morton & Gettys has grown into the largest law firm in the area. With more than a dozen attorneys, the firm employs a collaborative approach to serve a range of clients on everything from buying a first home to transitioning a business to the next generation. The firm recently relocated to the second floor of the beautifully renovated historic Friedheim building, a fitting home for a practice that honors tradition while meeting modern client needs.

As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, the firm is giving back to the community in appreciation of the unwavering support over the years.

Over several weeks, we are finding ways to show our gratitude to the people and businesses of Rock Hill. It started this week on March 19 with a blood drive that led to a donation of 25 pints. The attorneys and staff have also volunteered to support great causes, as they have done consistently over the years. The firm is preparing donations of time, money, food, and more to support local organizations, business, and events.

It’s simply our way of saying “thank you” to a community that has done so much to support us.

Supporting the Come-See-Me Road Race

Morton & Gettys team members volunteered at the Come-See-Me Road Race on April 18 as part of our 25 for 25 anniversary celebration. The Road Race is a Rock Hill tradition that brings together community spirit and a love of wellness in one of the city’s most beautiful settings — and the Morton & Gettys team was thrilled to be a part of it. A special thank you to everyone for stepping up and representing the firm with pride. For 25 years, Morton & Gettys has been part of this community — and moments like this are a reminder of just how much that means.

Special Olympics Sponsorship

As part of our 25 for 25 anniversary celebration, Morton & Gettys was proud to support the Area 11 Special Olympics Spring Games at Cherry Park on April 17. Area Eleven Special Olympics has served athletes from York, Chester, and Lancaster counties since 1968, providing sports training and competition opportunities to those with intellectual disabilities. This is an event the Morton & Gettys team has supported for years — and one that never fails to leave a lasting impression. The courage, joy, and sense of community that fills Cherry Park on game day is a powerful reminder of what makes Rock Hill such a special place to live and work.

Flowers for White Oak Manor

Morton & Gettys delivered flower arrangements from Cindy’s Flowers to residents at White Oak Manor on April 16 as we continue to celebrate 25 years. The elderly members of our community are too often overlooked, and Morton & Gettys wanted to take a moment to change that. A simple flower arrangement can go a long way toward reminding someone that they are seen, valued, and remembered, and the firm was honored to bring a little beauty and brightness to the residents of White Oak Manor.

Business Services Recognition

Upper Palmetto YMCA Summer Camp Sponsorship

Morton & Gettys is sponsoring one child to attend a week of summer camp at Upper Palmetto YMCA as part of our 25 for 25 anniversary celebration. Raising children comes with significant financial demands, and not every family is able to provide their child with a summer camp experience. Morton & Gettys chose to partner with the YMCA to help change that for one Rock Hill family — easing a real burden while giving a child the opportunity to learn, grow, make new friends, and create memories that will last a lifetime.

Bethel Men's Shelter Meal

To continue our 25 for 25 anniversary celebration, Morton & Gettys donated a meal to Bethel Men’s Shelter in Rock Hill on April 13. Bethel serves members of the community who are especially vulnerable, and the work they do to provide stability, dignity, and support to those working toward a better future is invaluable. Morton & Gettys is proud to give back in a way that makes a direct and meaningful difference in the lives of the people they serve. Special thank you to everyone who donated their time to help serve the meal.

Rock Hill Coffee Donation

As part of our 25 for 25 anniversary celebration, Morton & Gettys paid it forward with 25 free coffees at Rock Hill Coffee on Main Street. Rock Hill Coffee is a spot many members of the Morton & Gettys team know and love — a place to start the day, take a break, or connect with others over a good cup. Extending that same experience to the community felt like a natural fit: a small moment of generosity that invites people to slow down, enjoy Main Street, and connect with the friends and neighbors that make Rock Hill special. Heath Myers and Mary Stamato represented the firm on April 10.

The Haven Donation

As part of our 25 for 25 anniversary celebration, Morton & Gettys donated snacks and drinks to The Haven Shelter, serving those in need in the Rock Hill community. Morton & Gettys chose to support Haven Shelter because strong communities are built when people come together — and Haven Shelter’s work embodies that spirit every single day. The firm is proud to be part of the village that surrounds and supports the people they serve. Eliana Herrmann, Sally Culp, & Michael Smith brought the donations to Haven on April 8.

Children's Museum Donation

As part of its 25 for 25 anniversary celebration, Morton & Gettys donated 25 free admissions to the Children’s Museum of York County. The Children’s Museum is a place that encourages curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning — but not every child has the opportunity to walk through its doors. Morton & Gettys chose this initiative to help remove that barrier and give more children access to an experience that sparks imagination and a love of discovery.

Gratitude Within Our Walls

As part of its 25 for 25 anniversary celebration, Morton & Gettys marked World Health Day by expressing gratitude where it starts — within its own walls. Team members took time to write personal notes of appreciation to their colleagues, a simple but intentional act rooted in the belief that Morton & Gettys is only as strong as our people. Research shows that gratitude reduces stress, improves mood, strengthens relationships, and supports overall well-being — and taking a moment to recognize one another is a meaningful way to invest in the culture that has carried the firm for 25 years.

PW's Ice Cream Donation

As part of our 25 for 25 anniversary celebration, Morton & Gettys paid it forward with 25 free ice creams for customers at PW’s Ice Cream on April 3. Trent Womble and his sons represented the firm and enjoyed a few cones themselves. PW’s is a spot many members of the Morton & Gettys team already know and love, making it a natural choice for this act of gratitude. Something as simple as an unexpected treat can bring real joy and spark a moment of connection — and sharing one of Rock Hill’s favorite local traditions with the community felt like exactly the right way to celebrate 25 years.

York County Library Book Donation

As part of its 25 for 25 anniversary celebration, Morton & Gettys donated 25 books to the York County Library — one for every year the firm has been proud to serve this community. Kelly Hamilton and LeAnne Morse delivered the books to Assistant Director Martin House at the library’s Baxter Location. It’s a small gesture with a lasting impact, and a reflection of Morton & Gettys’ commitment to investing in a shared community resource that benefits people of all ages and backgrounds.

Open Arms Child Development Center Donation

As part of our 25 for 25 anniversary celebration, Morton & Gettys donated play equipment to Open Arms Child Development Center at Pilgrims’ Inn. When the firm connected with Open Arms, it quickly became clear there was a genuine need for additional equipment. Michelle Craig, Eliana Herrmann, Nikki Harris, Jenny Baker, Julie Hord and her husband, Chris, helped deliver and put together playground equipment alongside Jaime Thompson with Open Arms. Early childhood development is critical, and providing the right tools for play helps children learn, explore, and build meaningful relationships. Morton & Gettys was grateful for the opportunity to meet a need that directly impacts the children Open Arms serves every day.

Adaptive Easter Egg Hunt Sponsorship

As part of our 25 for 25 celebration, Morton & Gettys was proud to sponsor the Adaptive Easter Egg Hunt at Miracle Park on March 31 — and several members of the firm’s team joined to volunteer alongside the community. Miracle Park is a fully inclusive park designed so that children of all abilities can play side by side. The free annual event brought families together for an evening of fun in a welcoming, accessible environment and Morton & Gettys was honored to help make it happen. Supporting initiatives like this one is exactly what our 25th anniversary celebration is all about — 25 acts of gratitude for 25 years of unwavering community support.

Heart of the Home Benefit Donation

Morton & Gettys’ 25th anniversary celebration continued with a donation to the Heart of the Home Benefit on March 26 which will help support the Children’s Attention Home. We are proud to contribute to the Home’s efforts to provide every child the safety, support, and access to basic resources that they deserve. The Home serves a vulnerable and often overlooked population, providing stability, care, and opportunities for a better future. LeAnne Morse, Robin Owens, Heath Myers and Melissa Cassell enjoyed representing the firm at the Benefit.

Donation to Hospice & Community Care

Morton & Gettys proudly made a donation to Hospice & Community Care as part of our 25 for 25 celebration. Partner Heath Myers, a member of the organization’s Board of Directors, represented the firm at the reception on March 24. Hospice & Community Care has been around for over 40 years, serving our community with local leaders and volunteers. In addition to hospice and palliative care, they offer charity care, free medical equipment, grief counseling, and veteran support. We are proud to support an organization that provides compassionate care and critical resources to those in need in our community.

Donating Blood at City Hall

Members of the Morton & Gettys team donated blood at City Hall on March 19, and we’ll be continuing that effort throughout our anniversary month of April. Every pint makes a real difference, and there’s no better way to start giving back to the community that has given so much to us. M&G’s John Gettys, Elizabeth Owen, Josh Vann, and Julie Hord led the way for our first act of gratitude. M&G is committed to totaling 25 pints donated.
