A lifelong South Carolina resident with deep roots in the state, JD Bailey’s legal practice focuses on commercial real estate, land use and zoning, and civil litigation. He also is a member of the Morton & Gettys Business and Corporate Law Team. JD is currently licensed in North Carolina.

JD graduated in the Top 10 of his class at the Elon University School of Law. He earned Dean’s List honors and was a member of the Elon Law Review.

JD also served as a law clerk at Morton & Gettys while in law school. In that capacity, he drafted complaints in breach-of-contract litigation and researched and drafted memos in cases involving family law, property law, probate law and employment law. Additionally, he drafted closing documents in multi-million-dollar transactions in both South Carolina and North Carolina.

He also served as a judicial resident for The Honorable Frank D. Whitney, United States District Judge for Western North Carolina. He participated in criminal and civil cases as well as in court-led mediations. His work also included drafting memos and conducting research.

JD earned his bachelor’s degree in biology at Francis Marion University. He graduated cum laude and was a member of the school’s NCAA baseball team. He worked as a junior loan officer for a mortgage company in Florence before attending law school.

Born and raised in the Lowcountry, JD grew up on his family’s dairy farm, and attended Barnwell High School. He’s an avid fan of Clemson University sports and the Atlanta Braves. In his free time, he also enjoys golf.
